Mombasa.

If Kenya isn’t on your bucket list of places to visit then you are doing yourself a great disservice (not to mention missing out!). Kenya has so much to offer, and I doubt a single blog post would ever be able to encompass it all, but, let’s go post by post shall we? For all of my fellow Kenyans, I know that I’m preaching to the choir here, but I guess this is directed mostly to the unknowing, and the curious travellers.

Although I never had the pleasure of visiting the South Coast during the 6 years I lived in Kenya (I know, where are my priorities???), I did manage to find myself at the North Coast on 3 separate occasions.

Kenya boasts one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, and although you probably shouldn’t take the word of a person who has never been overseas (lol, send me a couple of air tickets will ya?), I’m sure that the truth shouldn’t be too far off from this statement!

You are guaranteed to love it: the people are just as warm and lovely as the weather is, and you can’t help but feel at peace while there, as if all is right in the world (even just for a moment). So here it is, my top 3 reasons why you should visit Mombasa πŸ™‚

The beaches

Nothing takes your breath away the way a white Sandy beach does. It truly is a beautiful sight to behold! The sound of the tides coming in and rushing back down the beach, the warm sand between your toes, the clear blue skies – almost feels like a scene straight out of a movie (Is this β€˜The Last Song’? Where’s Liam Hemsworth??? πŸ™ˆ).

Also, do take out the time to support the locals and buy some jewelry. You will always find vendors scattered across the main beaches, so you’ll be sure to find something special πŸ™‚

Fort Jesus

If you’re a bit of a history lover like me then you should definitely go for a tour of Fort Jesus, and learn a thing or two about the area. Even if you aren’t, and fancy yourself a bit of an adventure, you’ll love exploring the fort. Crazy to think that once upon a time people were actually firing those cannons (Hollywood we’re ready for an Indiana Jones-style adventure movie, plus there’s more where Lupita came from πŸ˜‰ #hotbedoftalentnotterrorism)

Old Town

This place is magical. This section of the city feels as if it is completely removed from the rest of the city, you feel as if you’ve been transported to another world entirely. I was in awe, because I hadn’t the slightest idea that this place even existed, like what??? You’ll definitely appreciate the architecture, it’s as if the town remained untouched by the hands of time design-wise, and I really do hope it stays that way!

That concludes my list! There’s loads more to get up to while visiting Mombasa! Boat ride? Go for it. Jet-skiing? You got it. Scuba-diving? They’re way ahead of you. The list goes on and on πŸ™‚
